Week 22

Thank you rain, for the worst lighting EVER.

How big is baby? The size of a papaya!

Baby Development FYI:  During month five, the average fetus measures about 10.5 to 11.8 inches and weighs about 12.7 to 20.8 ounces. Now that he’s got more developed eyes and lips, he’s looking even more like a newborn.  He’s sleeping in cycles — about 12 to 14 hours per day (hint: they’re probably those times you’re not feeling any kicks!).

My body has been invaded, how’s that going?
Pass me the honesty stick again, please.  Still…backed up.  The OB suggested I try taking Colace.  Did that a couple times, but that doesn’t help you…move on through.  So at the appointment this week, I mentioned the issue again.  I was told to make myself a yummy prune juice cocktail.  The OB said some women thing it tastes better heated up and even mixed with hot cider.  So while you’re sipping on your gin and juice, I’ll have my cider and prune juice!

What’s been on my mind?
Still just trying to get things organized and ready to fill with stuff.  Nate and I wanted a gender neutral diaper bag for us to both use.  But lets be honest, I will be the main diaper bag carrier, so I should at least get to choose a bag that I like and am comfortable with.  So I decided on this lovely lady:

Vera Bradley Baby Bag – Folkloric

What I love most about this bag?  When it gets dirty, smelly, or spit up on, I can just throw it into the wash.  The durability, everyone I’ve spoken to and all the reviews say these bags hold up for YEARS, which is hard to find in a diaper bag.  Once the kids have outgrown the need for a diaper bag, the bag can function as a tote, weekend bag, or whatever you want, is isn’t JUST a diaper bag.  There are plenty of pockets and compartments that all make sense. Some diaper bags I think go over board in the pocket department, I don’t want to get lost in my bag!

Crazy Cravings:
BROWNIES.  Do you know what happens when your chef has an all day/most of the night catering event, and you are pregnant, at home alone, and hungry for dinner?

Have also had a mean craving for baked potatoes, salt and vinegar chips with sour cream, and ice cream.
Highlights: Monthly appointment this week.  Got to hear the heartbeat again which was much louder than the last time!  It was awesome, and can’t help but smile when I hear it.  The heartbeat was 147 (whatever that means).  I have not been keeping up with my weight gain so I thought I’d ask the OB.  A whopping 6 lbs!!!!  I thought I had at least put on 12 lb or so, but nope, just 6.  She was happy with the weight and said everything is normal, and I am literally all belly for right now.  Then I told her to hush or else she’d jinx me.

We FINALLY bought a bed!  Until now we’ve just been using the default metal frame.  No head or foot board. Not anymore! 🙂  Words of advice to other future homeowners…don’t paint samples of paint on your wall until you are actually ready to paint.  Those 3 spots have been there since the day we closed on our house.  I didn’t like all 3, and I haven’t decided on a color still.

We also bought a family car! Well, crossover I guess I should say.  Went from my cute Prius:

  To this pretty Mazda CX-9:
We have been car shopping and test driving for 2-3 months now and the CX-9 had everything on our list!  I’m sure a van would’ve been a practical choice, but I just couldn’t make that jump…yet.  It was definitely more nerve-racking buying a car than a house.  Buying a house you have a realtor to help guide you.  Buying a car, you are on your own and salesmen, when you are making a deal, are freakin scary!  It also hit me that we were buying a BABY car.  A car that we will be putting a car seat in and buckling up a baby in just a few short months. SO CRAZY TO THINK ABOUT!

Fun and safe to drive.  Nate really loved the blind-spot alarm and backup camera.  There is also a DVD player in the ceiling…which our child will not know of it’s existence until at least 3 years of age, and will only be used for 1 hour+ trips.
Ginormous trunk and 3rd row seating.  I will most likely keep the 3rd row folded down for the extra trunk space.  But it’s nice to have options.
My “must-have” the trunk popper and closer button!!!  You wouldn’t believe how hard it was to find a car with this feature, but it helped narrow down the choices.
